The Fox 22 has also shown itself to be an extremely stable and comfortable yacht in the numerous tests carried out by various water sport magazines. Its stability and sailing characteristics are particularly good in comparison to other yachts of the same length. Of further note are the no-nonsense character, solid construction and very simple maintenance requirements of the Fox 22. Thanks to this yacht’s long waterline, wide stern and relatively low weight, the Fox 22’s water resistance is very low. This, in combination with the modern 7/8 rigging, has created a sporty sailing yacht that responds to the slightest breeze, and reacts very quickly to the rudder and sail trimming. The sailing tests can be found in the magazines: ‘Zeilen’, ‘Watersport’, ‘Yacht’ and ‘Yacht Vision’.
The Fox 22 also has lots to offer below deck: There is room for four adults in the cabin, with four comfortable beds and high-quality upholstery. The concept of the Fox 22 is: Lots of space on deck, in the cockpit and the cabin. It is spartan in terms of equipment, with a minimum of unnecessary gadgets in the cabin, and is designed for sailors who use on-shore facilities. On the other hand, minimal time is needed for maintenance and management; the Fox is always ready to sail. The list of equipment can, of course, be extended with a range of options, but many Fox sailors think this to be unnecessary.
The sales figures prove how successful this boat has been: Since 2001, Ottenhome Heeg has built and sold about 385 Fox 22 yachts. Internationally, Foxes are already being delivered to Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Design and construction
The Fox 22 was designed by Koos de Ridder, the designer of many famous and popular Dutch sailing yachts. The polyester hull is built in the customer’s desired colour according to tried and tested Dutch standards by internationally renowned boatbuilder, Breehorn in Woudsend. The hull is then transported to the Ottenhome Heeg boatyard where the interior, railings, deck fittings, keel and rudder are fabricated and installed. If desired, the underwater hull is provided with a quadruple epoxy layer and finished with antifouling. Finally, striping is applied to the hull as desired. After the yacht is launched, which can be a festive occasion, the mast and rigging are mounted, and the proud new owner can sail his or her heart out.
