Since 2013, the Fox 22 has been available with a lift keel with a draft of 1.35 m. This lift keel has a long, aquadynamic shaft, with a moulded torpedo-shaped underside. Thanks to the ingenious keel design by Koos de Ridder, the stability of the Fox 22 with lift keel is unaffected.
In many areas in Europe, it is not easy finding a berth with sufficient depth. This is not helped by high costs and long waiting lists for a berth in a marina. This, along with the increasing number of ’trailer sailors’ – sailors who want to tow their yachts around Europe to sail its beautiful waterways – was the reason Ottenhome Heeg decided to fit the Fox 22 with a lift keel.
The keel can be lifted safely and easily with a hoist under the boom, and then lifted with a jib winch and secured in the transport position with two stainless steel pins. Lifting or lowering the keel takes just a couple of minutes. The keel shaft in the floor of the cabin is fairly small, and no higher than the benches.
